24 hours. 555 teams. One mission: solve real-world problems. 🚀 Rajalakshmi Engineering College hosted the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2026 Internal Hackathon and Selection Process, bringing together 555 teams, including 156 hardware and 399 software teams, to turn ideas into technology-driven solutions. From idea pitching to building Proofs of Concept and functional prototypes, teams pushed their thinking, collaborated across disciplines and built solutions with real world impact in mind. After an intensive 24-hour hackathon, 45 teams were shortlisted, with 5 teams on the waiting list. The ideas are built. The solutions are taking shape. From Winter School participant to Space Research Intern, Deniston Joshua's journey is a testament to where curiosity, determination, and the right opportunities can lead. 🚀🌍 After representing Rajalakshmi Engineering College at the TU Berlin Winter School CanSat Program, Deniston Joshua, now a Final Year Aeronautical Engineering student, returned to Germany as a Research Intern in the Space Technologies Department at the Technical University of Berlin. His work spans cutting-edge research, from conducting experiments with lunar regolith (moon dust simulant) and analysing thermal behaviour using Python to contributing to Project MOONRISE, an initiative advancing AI-powered lunar 3D printing technologies. Stories like Deniston's reflect the impact of meaningful international collaborations, transforming classroom learning into real-world research and giving students the opportunity to contribute to innovations with global significance. As part of the Tamil Nadu Government’s Drug Awareness and Drug-Free Tamil Nadu initiative, REC joined the statewide movement to create greater awareness among young minds and build a healthier future.
