TOP ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

UNIVERSITY RANKS
The Department has produced 50 University Ranks including 5 GOLD MEDALS in the first ten batches. Mr. M. Lakshmi Narayanan of 2006-10 batch, Mr. R. AurnSakthees of 2007-11 batch, Mr. D. Praveen of 2009-13, Mr. R. Aswin 2011-15, Mr.P.M.PrahlathaVaradhan of 2016-2020 batch secured Gold Medals.

INDUSTRY CONNECT
Department is having Good interaction with leading automotive industries which is evident from donated components (engines, turbo chargers, steering gear boxes, etc.) Vehicle (Hyundai Santro CAR and Ford Ecosport) for enhancing teaching learning process. Eminent speakers from industries and academic institutions address students on current topics in automotive fields to enhance the knowledge of students.

INDUSTRY CONNECT : CATERPILLAR CAT IT
The team of four students from Automobile Engineering department won First Prize in the “CAT IT” a competition organized by CATERPILLAR INDIA at Thiruvallur plant on 12/10/2017.

Guided by Mr. Venkatasubramanian, Assistant Professor, Automobile engineering department. The winning team were granted hands on training at SWE (Simulated Work Environment) Training Camp in the manufacturing unit and an Internship opportunities at CATERPILLAR INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED as a part of their winning.

TRAINING
Department has very good laboratory facilities which are used to train women employees of M/s. Mando India Ltd for a certification program approved by Government of India - Ministry of MSME, Chennai

Contributions to Curriculum and syllabus
Dr. S. Sampath, Dean served as a member of Board of Studies and Academic Council of University of Madras and Anna University since 2000 for framing the Automobile Engineering Course. Dr. K. Bhaskar, HOD served as a member of Syllabus Committee of Anna University of Technology, Chennai in the academic year 2011-12 and he is currently member of Syllabus Committee for PG Automobile Engineering in Anna University, Chennai. Dr. V. Muthu, Professor served as a Member of Syllabus Committee of Mechanical Engineering of Anna University during 2006-2009.

Research Publications
Our department has 150 quality research publications of which 25 research publications are in International Journals with impact factor more than 2. Some of our faculty members are reviewers for reputed international journals and reviewing papers periodically. Our department also published three book chapters in reputed publishers like Elsevier and Springer.

Awards in Engineering
Our Department received "Teaching Awards in Engineering" by Staffordshire University, UK and Education Matters for the year 2014 and 2019 and for maintaining academic excellence.

Doctorates
Department has Four doctorates and Four faculty members are pursuing doctoral program.

Workshops & Conferences
Department is organizing Workshops, Seminars, Conferences and Symposia regularly to facilitate learning platform for faculty and students to explore and share knowledge in the latest fields in Automobile Engineering. AICTE has sanctioned more than 5 lakhs so far for conducting Faculty Development Programs, Workshops and Seminars.

SAE Collegiate Club
Department is having active SAE Collegiate Club and almost all the faculty and students are members of SAEINIDA. Our students have participated in aSOP, Baja and student convention programmes and won prizes.

Co-Curricular
Our students actively participated in the competitions conducted by other institutions and brought several laurels to our department. It is worth to mention that more than 38 prizes are won in co-curricular activities and 35 research publications are published by students of our department in prestigious conferences and leading journals in the last four years.

ALUMNI
Department is having good alumni interactions. They contribute to welfare of department and students by giving guest lectures and donating books to the department library

Funded Projects and Consultancy

• Dr. K. Bhaskar received a fund for Rs. 14 lakhs from AICTE to modernize the fuels and lubricants laboratory.
• Mr. N. Venkatasubramanian, Assistant Professor, has completed the consultancy work (AutoCAD Drawing of Electrical Panel Board Design) for G.K. Products, Chennai
• Mr. A.J.D. Nanthakumar, Asso. Professor was sanctioned a grant of ₹ 3,57,500 for the project proposal “Applications of Magneto Rheological fluid damper for use in automotive suspension” in the academic year 2014-15 by University Grants Commission, MHRD, Govt. of India.

1.Biography of Dr. K. Bhaskar is included in the Marquis Who's Who in the World, USA-In 2015 (32nd Edition) &2016 (33rd Edition) based on his contribution in research publications.

2. Mr. N. Venkatasubramanian has completed the NPTEL text translation work from English to Tamil for the following course:

• Matlab programming for Numerical Computations - 45 lectures
• Introduction to fluid mechanics - 16 lectures
• Engineering drawing and computer graphics - 11 lectures
• Applied Thermodynamics for Engineers - 6 lectures

3.Best Paper Awards and Titles:

• Dr. K. Bhaskar awarded Best Paper Award in smart Energy Systems for Sustainable Development during Mar 3-4 2017 for paper titled “ Combustion and Emission characteristics of Fish oil Methyl Ester (FOME)”.
• Mr. R. Edwin Joseph was invited to present his Research work titled “Hydro dipping Technology for small sized components” in Technology Tune-in 2018 conducted by Titan Company on Mar 17, 2018
• Mr. R. Anbalagan received a Best Paper Award for the paper titled “ Rejuvenation of wheel cylinder using vacuum technology in vehicle braking system” in International conference on contemporary design and analysis of manufacturing and industrial engineering systems on 18-20 Jan 2018 at NIT, Trichy
