Chennai, Feb.15: Rajalakshmi Engineering College (REC), Thandalam, known for its research activities has developed a learning kit for the Autistic children. As a funded project from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the faculty members of Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science Engineering (CSE) have come up with the E-kit, putting their innovative ideas through Multi- media technology with eye-catching animations.
This kit designed with visual aids at an affordable cost is meant for enabling the autistic children to learn and retain the concepts. The user friendly kit developed in English as well as in Tamil will be very useful in rural areas too. Dr. (Mrs.) Thangam Meganathan, Chairperson, Rajalakshmi Institutions released the kit today (Feb.15, 2017) and Dr. Konga Gopi Krishna, Scientist –D, TIDE Programme, SEED Division, DST received the kit.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. (Mrs.) Thangam Meganathan, chairperson, Rajalakshmi Institutions emphasised the need for empowering the society in all possible ways employing creative technology. The kit will be put to use at Neyam Special School, run by Aikya foundations at Chennai, for creating awareness and conducting workshops for training tutors and parents of autistic children. Dr. C.R. Muthukrishnan, Advisor, Rajalakshmi Institutions pointed out that this learning kit is a mile- stone in enabling the autistic children in the society.
Dr. S.N. Murugesan, Principal, Rajalakshmi Engineering College spoke about the various initiatives the college had taken in the academic and research front.
